The Corona virus COVID-19 has made “self-isolation at home” the most essential thing right now. In India a lock down of 3 weeks (might get extended) has been declared.

Honestly, I did panic a bit but turns out, the only prevention is home quarantining and social distancing. So if you’re already tired of binge watching and are seeking new productive ideas, then this list is just for you.

These productive and fun activities will keep you occupied, anxiety-free and when has learning done any harm. Anything you’d like to add? DM on Instagram.

Let’s begin, Shall we?

1. Grow a Plant

Since you will be self quarantining at home, a little greenery won’t harm anyone. Infact home plants are said to be stress busters. So pick a pot (or DIY one with a plastic bottle), plant some seeds and nurture it like a baby. I myself have Aloevera ones and they really brighten my place ( and the natural gel works wonders for the skin).

2. Make a List of Goals

Now that you finally have time from your busy schedule, make list of goals. It’s always good to introspect and know what you really want. It can be about anything – something you want to learn, something to improve on…anything. The list is about the self- realisation of your goals.

3. Clean Everything

Cleanliness attracts God – my Mom says, but more than that it keeps you safe from germs and viruses. So to stay clean you need to sanitize the things around you too. Furniture, makeup kits, shoes… Everything!

And not just clean… It should be Monica clean! ( #Friendsreference)

4. Make Books your Best Friend

Fiction or non-fiction, books give a new perspective about things. When you open a book, you open a new world. And once you get the hang of it, there’s no going back. So dust your favorites and indulge in them. ( Yes, I learnt the word “indulge” from a recent book I was reading. Another benefit of reading books)

5. No Books? Download Audiobooks

Internet has made thousands of books accessible to us in the form of audio books where often the author itself reads them to us. Isn’t that AMAAAZZZINNGGG ! You can listen them at your own convenience and multitask. Some of the platforms to listen to audiobooks are Audible and Storytel .

6. Plan your next Vacation’s Itinerary

You can’t travel right now but you can always plan your itinerary for the trip after the lock-down is over.

Choose a place you wish to visit and plan a “where to visit, stay, eat ” list from head to toe. Wouldn’t that save a lot of your precious time?

Here’s a list I made for the city beautiful- Chandigarh.

7. Create a playlist of your favorite songs

Choose your favorite songs and make a playlist so that you have a collective place to reach them at. Another fun thing to do is exchanging playlists with your friends. This way you might get introduced to new music and even have new favorites.

8. Declutter your phone/laptop

To all the selfie lovers, now is the time to choose your favorites and delete the 137 others. Deleting the extras would make space for more new ones.

9. Learn to dance on your favorite songs

Oh how much I dread the times when I try to copy my favorite choreographers but end up looking silly. Well, now is the time to get my groove in.

Tons of tutorials are available online and you know the best part ? At home you can dance like no one is watching! ( Cz no one is 😀 )

10. Start a Quarantine journal

Get your creative on and start a daily journal during the period. Include your “to-do’s”, your accomplishments and fill it with all the positivity you want. You’ll love to see your productivity after this period is over.

11. Try cooking recipes

Irrespective of the gender, the skill of cooking is essential for every human in order to survive. Since the option of ordering food online is shut completely and house maids are quarantining at home too, its time to try polishing your own culinary skills.

It ain’t tough once you begin following recipe instructions. Also, imagine the amount you’d be saving by skipping ordering food and making it yourself. Now, that’s some motivation, no?

12. Adopt a Healthy Diet

Since you are the one preparing food for yourself now, you can be more observant about the food and the calories you are consuming.

16. Finish those pending blogs/ vlogs / any work basically

Organising isn’t fun for lazy people like me but it definitely is a time saver when you are looking for that crisp white shirt and you know exactly where it is. So thinking how its gonna be beneficial later, do it today.

21. Have self-care sessions

Pamper your skin with a nice moisturizer, apply a facemask, give yourself a mani/pedi or even DIY your own face scrub using kitchen ingredients.

Here’s an easy home-made scrub method taught by my mom
  • Take 1/2 tablespoon of curd
  • Add 1 tablespoon of gram flour to it
